a town of the county of Fife in Scotland, situated in W. Long. 3° 7'. N. Lat. 56° 15'; on the west side of Lochleven, a fresh-water lake about 10 miles in compass, abounding with pike, trout, perch, and water-fowl. In the lake are two islands; on one of which appear the ruins of a priory, heretofore possessed by the Culdees; the other is famous for the cattle in which queen Mary was imprisoned by her rebellious subjects.
