(MACULA), a coat of mail, so called from the French maille, which signifies a square figure, or the hole of a net: so maille de houbergons was a coat of mail, because the links or joints in it resemble the squares of a net.
Mail is likewise used for the leather bag wherein letters are carried by the post.
