(Juan Gonzales de), an Augustinian friar, of the province of Castile, was made ambassador from the king of Spain to the emperor of China. In 1593, he was made bishop of Lipari in Italy. In 1607 he was made bishop of Chiapa in New Spain, and the next year was removed to the see of Papaian in the West Indies. He wrote a history of China in Spanish, which has been translated into several languages.
