a celebrated Athenian captain, who, with 12,000 men, routed above 300,000 Persians at Marathon, and, pursuing them, took many islands in the Archipelago: but returning to Athens without taking Paros, his fellow-citizens, forgetting the important services he had rendered them, sentenced him to pay a large fine. Being unable to advance the money, he was thrown into prison, where he languished.
