MYRMIDONES, in antiquity; a people of Thessaly, said to have arose from ants or pismires, upon a prayer put up for that purpose by king Æacus to Jupiter, after his kingdom had been displeased by a severe pestilence.—In Homer and Virgil, the Myrmidons are Achilles's soldiers.
