a province of Italy, in the territory of the church, bounded on the west by Tuscany, on the south by Orvietano, on the west by the duchies of Spoleto and Urbino, and on the north by the county of Citra Castellana. It is one of the smallest provinces in the territory of the Church. The air is very pure, and the soil fertile in corn and good wine; besides, the lake Perugia supplies them with plenty of fish. The capital town is Perugia. The lake is eight miles from the city, and is almost round, being about five miles in diameter; in it there are three islands. This province is about 25 miles in length, and near as much in breadth.
