PHLEGON

Volume 8 · 60 words · 1778 Edition

surnamed Trallianus, wrote several books, very few of which are now extant. He was the emperor Adrian's freed-man. The history of Adrian published under Phlegon's name, is thought to have been written by Adrian himself. It is said that Phlegon spoke of the darkness which prevailed during our Lord's passion; which has caused several disputes both among ancients and moderns.
