Arabic Gulf, a sea which separates Asia from Africa. It is very long in proportion to its breadth; and its navigation is extremely difficult on account of the many rocks and shoals with which it abounds. It extends from the Capes Aden and Socotra, which form the Straits of Bab-elmandel to the town of Suez, situated on the isthmus between Asia and Africa.
Red-Shank, in ornithology. See Scolopax.
