hemp, hair, &c. spun out into a thick yarn, and then several strings of this yarn twisted together by means of a wheel. When made very small, it is called a cord; when very thick, a cable.

Rose-Yarn, among sailors, is the yarn of any rope untwisted, but commonly made up of junk; its use is to make netting, mats, &c.
