Volume 1 · 87 words · 1797 Edition

(Bernardo), secretary to the republic of Florence, was furred as L'Unico, or the Nonfuch, probably from the great extent of his understanding, the variety of sciences he had acquired, and the excellency of his poetic vein; which not only gained him a seat among the academicians of the court of Urbino, but made that great Mecenas, pope Leo X. in 1520, create him prince of the state of Nepi. He wrote many pieces; among others, a collection of beautiful poems, printed at Venice in 1519 and 1553.
