something that is nameless, or of which the name is concealed. It is a term usually applied to books which do not express the author's name, or to authors whose names are unknown.

ANONYMOUS in Commerce.—Partnerships in trade in France are styled anonymous, when they are not carried on under any particular name, but wherein each of the partners trades visibly on his own account, and in his own name; after which all the partners give one another an account of their profit or loss in trade. These sorts of partnerships are concealed, and known only to the parties themselves.

ANONYMOUS Partnerships in Trade, are also in France, such, wherein persons of fortune and quality deposit sums of money, in order to share of the profits and losses. To this end those who furnish the capital have no trouble in carrying on the trade, nor do their names appear to be any way interested therein.
