or Hazor (anc. geog.), a town of the tribe of Judah, to the south-west, on the borders of Ashkelon, (Joshua); as also Hafar-Hadatha, translated by the seventy Argen Ezra (id.).—Another Asor, Aforus, or Hazor, a town of Galilee; called the capital of all the kingdoms to the north of Palestine. It was taken by Joshua; the inhabitants were put to the sword, and their houses burnt. It was afterwards rebuilt (Judges 1 Sam.) but remained till in the hands of the Canaanites, though in the lot of the tribe of Naphtali, (Joshua). It lay to the north of the Lacus Samachonites, called in Scripture the Waters of Merom (Josephus).
