in heraldry, are such as a person has a right to assume, with the approbation of his sovereign, and of the heralds: thus, if a person, who has no right by blood, and has no coat of arms, shall captivate, in any lawful war, any gentleman, nobleman, or prince, he is, in that case, intitled to bear the shield of that prisoner, and enjoy it to him and his heirs for ever.
