a small but strong town of France, and capital of Suntraw in Alsace. It was ceded to France by the treaty of Westphalia in 1648. There are not above 100 houses in this town, but it is important on account of the great road by this place from Franche Comté. The fortifications were greatly augmented by Louis XIV. It is seated at the foot of a mountain.
