a kind of divination performed by means of the Bible. This amounts to much the same with what is otherwise called fortis biblicae or fortis sanctorum. It consisted in taking passages of Scripture at hazard, and drawing indications thence concerning things future; as in Augustin's tolle et lege. It was much used for the consecration of bishops.—F.
