little stick cleft at one end, in which is put a leaf of some plant, wherewith to counterfeit the cryer's call of several birds, and bring them to the net, or snare, or lime-twigs, to be taken. A laurel-leaf fitted on the bird-call, counterfeits the voice of lapwings; a leek that of nightingales, &c.
