Volume 3 · 76 words · 1797 Edition

a town of Switzerland, belonging to the bishop of Constance. There is a castle wherein the bishop's bailiff resides, who receives half the fines; but he has nothing to do with the town, nor is there any appeal from the council of the town. It is seated on the Thur, at the place where the Sitter falls into this river almost half way between Constance and St Gall. E. Long. 9° 23'. N. Lat. 47° 33'.
