(John), a Spanish poet of the 16th cen- tury, born at Barcelona. He was the friend of Gar- cilasso de Viga, another Spanish poet. These two were the first who made any great improvement in the poetry of their nation, and their pieces were print- ed together. Bolcan, who died about the year 1542, principally succeeded in fonnets.
