a province of Turkey in Europe, situated between Slavonia and Dalmatia. It belongs entirely to the Turks; but they were on the point of being expelled from it by the Christians, when the Spaniards invaded Sicily, and obliged the emperor to conclude the peace of Passarowitz in 1718, by which he gave up Bosnia to the Turks. It is 200 miles in length, and 75 in breadth. It is a barren country, and but little cultivated; the principal revenue arising chiefly from the silver mines. Among the game there are falcons, which are held in great esteem.
