(James Benigne), bishop of Meux, was born at Dijon, on the 27th of September, 1627. He distinguished himself by his preaching, and the zeal he discovered in his endeavours to bring over the Protestants of France to the Roman church; by his opposition to Quietism; and by his numerous writings both in French and Latin, which have been collected together, and printed at Paris in 17 vols. This famous divine died at Paris, in 1704, aged 77.
