BURTON upon Trent, a town of Staffordshire, in England. It had formerly a large abbey; and over the river Trent it has now a famous bridge of free stone, about a quarter of a mile in length, supported by 37 arches. It consists chiefly of one long street, which runs from the place where the abbey stood to the bridge; and has a good market for corn and provisions.
