(anc. geog.), surnamed Enneaerunus, from its nine springs or channels; a fountain not far from Athens, greatly adorned by Pitilratius, where there were several wells, but this only the running spring. Callirhoe was also the name of a very fine spring of hot water beyond Jordan near the Dead Sea, into which it empties itself.
CALISIA, in botany: A genus of the monogyne order, belonging to the triandra class of plants; and in the natural method ranking under the 6th order, Enfalae. The calyx is triphyllous; the petals are three; the antherae are double; and the capsule is bilocular. There is but one species, a native of America.
