or CAVALCADEUR, anciently denoted a riding-master; but at present is diffused in that sense, and only employed to denote a sort of squires or officers who have the direction of princes' stables. The French say, ecuyer cavalcadeur of the king, the duke of Orleans, &c. Menage writes it cavalcadour, and derives it from the Spanish cavalgador, a horseman.
