a maritime town of Barbary in Africa, and in the kingdom of Fez, seated on the straits of Gibraltar, opposite that place, in W. Long. 6° 25'. N. Lat. 36° 35'. John king of Portugal took it from the Moors in 1415, but it now belongs to Spain. In 1697, it sustained a vigorous siege by the Moors.
