(Andrew du), styled the father of French history, was born in 1584. He wrote, 1. A history of the popes. 2. An history of England. 3. An inquiry into the antiquities of the towns of France. 4. An history of the cardinals. 5. A bibliotheca of the authors who have written the history and topography of France, &c. He was crushed to death by a cart, in going from Paris to his country-house at Verrières, in 1640.
