the wild-grape: A genus of the monogynia order, belonging to the tetrandra class of plants; and in the natural method ranking under the 46th order, Hederaceae. The berry is monoppermous, surrounded by the calyx, and a quadripartite corolla. There are four species, all of them natives of the island of Jamaica, and some of the other islands in the warm parts of America. They send out slender branches, having tendrils at their joints, by which they fasten to the neighbouring trees, bushes, and any other support, mounting to a considerable height. The fruit of some of the species are eaten by the negroes.
