(Kodon), in antiquity, a cymbal, or rather little bras bell, resembling the head of a poppy. They were fastened to the trappings and bridles of horses.

The calyx is decempartite, with the segments alternately long and short; the corolla campanulated, with the limb decempartite and equal; the nectarium decemlocular, of ten scales inserted into the heels of the stamina; the seed-caps bilocular; the seeds hairy, roundish, in a dry coloured pulp.
