Collegiani, Collegiants, a religious sect formed among the Arminians and Anabaptists in Holland, about the beginning of the seventeenth century; so called because of their colleges, or meetings, twice every week; where every one, females excepted, has the same liberty of expounding the scripture, praying, &c. They are said to be all either Arians or Socinians; they never communicate in the college, but meet twice a-year from all parts of Holland at Rhinbergh, whence they are also called Rhinberghers, a village two miles from Leyden, where they communicate together; admitting every one that presents himself, professing his faith in the divinity of the holy scriptures, and resolution to live suitably to their precepts and doctrines, without regard to his feet or opinion. They have no particular ministers, but each officiates as he is disposed. They never baptize without dipping.
