Volume 5 · 55 words · 1797 Edition

(from *κόσμος*, world, and *λαβέω*, I take), an ancient mathematical instrument, serving to measure distances, both in the heavens and on earth. The cosmolabe is in great measure the same with the astrolabe. It is also called *pentacost*, or the universal instrument, by L. Morgard, in a treatise written expressly upon it, printed in 1612.
