or STINKING-BEANS; a kind of kidney-beans imported from the East Indies, where they are used as a cure for the dropsy. The down growing on the outside of the pod is so pointed as, like a nettle, to sting the flesh, though not with so painful a sensation. This, by a corruption of the word, is called cowitch. The plant is a species of Dolichos.
