PETTY Madder: A genus of the monogynia order, belonging to the tetrandria class of plants; and in the natural method ranking under the 47th order, Stellata. The corolla is monopetalous and funnel-shaped, with the tube filiform and the limb unguiculated, or having an inflexed segment on the top of each segment; the calyx is diphyllous, and there are two linear seeds. There are five species, natives of the southern parts of Europe; but none of them possessed of any remarkable quality.
