Volume 5 · 71 words · 1797 Edition

a Phrygian, who lived during the Trojan war, in which he was engaged, and of which he wrote the history in Greek. This history was extant in the age of Ælian; the Latin translation, now extant, is universally believed to be spurious, though it is attributed by some to Cornelius Nepos. This translation first made its appearance A.D. 1477, at Milan. Homer speaks of him, II. 5. v. 10. and 27.
