called also DIAPHONICS, the consideration of the properties of refracted sound, as it passes through different mediums: (See ACoustics.) The word is formed from the Greek δια περ, "thro," which intimates a passage; and ἀκούω "I hear," q. d. the consideration of the passage of the sounds we hear. See SOUND.
