a schismatic bishop of Carthage, founder of the sect of Donatists. His followers swore by him, and honoured him like a god. He died about 368.

(Ælius), a famous grammarian, lived at Rome in 354. He was one of St Jerome's masters; and composed commentaries on Terence and Virgil, which are esteemed.
