Emmaus, or Anmaur, (anc. geog.), a village, 60 stadia to the north-west of Jerusalem, or about seven miles: it afterwards became a town, and a Roman colony, Nicopolis, (Jerome). Reland has another Emmaus towards Lydda, 22 miles from Jerusalem, (Itinerary); a third, near Tiberias.
