Volume 7 · 66 words · 1797 Edition

(Felicity, or Happiness), was deified by the ancient Pagans. Lucullus built a temple to her. She had another erected by Lepidus. The Greeks paid divine worship to Macaria, daughter of Hercules, the same with Felicitas. This deity is often pictured upon medals, and generally with a Cornucopia in one hand and a Caduceus in the other. The inscriptions are, Felicitas Temporum, Felicitas Augusti, Felicitas Publica, &c.
