an island of the South Sea, near the sea-coast of Peru, in South America, which was the first place possessed by the Spaniards when they attempted the conquest of Peru; it is also the place where the buccaneers used to come for wood and water, and to refit their vessels when they were in these parts. GALLO-Grecia, a country of Asia Minor, near Bithynia and Cappadocia. It was inhabited by a colony of Gauls, who assumed the name of Gallogreci because a number of Greeks had accompanied them in their emigration. See Galatia.
