a large island of the Pacific Ocean, lying between 1° S. Lat. and 2° N. Lat. and between 125° and 128° E. Long. It belongs to the Dutch; but does not produce any of the fine spices, tho' it lies in the neighbourhood of the spice-islands. The natives are fierce and cruel savages.
