(John), an eminent English civilian, was born in the island of Scilly in 1617, and educated at Oxford. In 1642-3, he was created doctor of civil law; in 1653, he was appointed one of the judges of the admiralty; and at the Restoration, he was made one of his majesty’s advocates. He was esteemed as great a master of divinity as of his own faculty; and published, 1. The holy linbeck. 2. The holy arbour. 3. A view of the admiral’s jurisdiction. 4. The orphan’s legacy. 5. Repertorium canonicum, &c. He died in 1678.
