(Godfrey), a learned doctor of the Sorbonne, born at Beauvais in 1617. He wrote many excellent works; the principal of which are, 1. The lives of St Athanasius, St Basil, St Gregory Nazianzen, St Chrysostom, and St Ambrose. 2. Four pieces in defense of the rights of the university of Paris against the Jesuits. 3. A French translation of St Chrysostom's treatise of Providence, and St Basil's Affections. 4. Extracts from the councils; published after his death, under the title of Clavis disciplinae ecclesiasticae. He died suddenly at Paris in 1690.
