(Peter Cornelius Van), an eminent historian and poet, born at Amsterdam in 1581. He was lord of Muyden, judge of Goyland, and knight of the order of St Michael. He died at the Hague in 1647. He wrote, 1. An excellent history of the Netherlands, from the abdication of Charles V. to the year 1588. 2. Several Comedies, and other works. By these he acquired such reputation, that the Flemings considered him as the Homer and Tacitus of the Netherlands.
