(James), professor of medicine in the university. university of Helmstadt, in the 16th century. He joined devotion with the knowledge and practice of physic. He carefully prayed to God to bless his prescriptions, and published a form of prayer upon this subject. He also wrote, 1. A treatise on the qualities of a good physician. 2. Another on the qualities of a good apothecary. 3. A treatise of the plague, in German. 4. A commentary in libros Hippocratis de cordis, and other works.

Horstius (Gregory), nephew of the former, called the Aesculapius of Germany, published several books, which are esteemed.
