(from the Saxon word Hustlinge, i.e. concilium, or curia), a court held in Guild-hall before the lord-mayor and aldermen of London, and reckoned the supreme court of the city. Here deeds may be enrolled, outlawries sued out, and replevin and writs of error determined. In this court also is the election of aldermen, of the four members of parliament for the city, &c. This court is very ancient, as appears by the laws of Edward the Confessor. Some other cities have likewise had a court bearing the same name, as Winchester, York, &c.
