(anc. geog.), a town of Palestine, near Joppa; called Jamnia or Jamnial, by the Greeks and Romans. In Joshua xv. it seems to be called Jabneel; but in 2 Chron. xxvi. Jabne. It was taken from the Philistines by Uzziah, who demolished its fortifications. Its port, called Jamnitarum portus, lay between Joppa and Azotus.
