a violent and dangerous kind of colic; called also volvulus, miferere mei, and chordaplus. It takes its name from the intestine ilion, on account of its being usually affected by this distemper; or perhaps from the Greek verb εἰλίων "to wind or twist"; whence also it is the Latins call it volvulus.
