Jurats, magistrates in the nature of Aldermen, for the government of several corporations. Thus we meet with the mayor and jurats of Maidstone, Rye, Winchelsea, &c.—So also Jersey has a bailiff and twelve jurats, or sworn assistants, to govern the island.
