Terra Lemnia, a medicinal, astringent sort of earth, of a fatty consistence and reddish colour; used in the same cases as BOLE. It has its name from the island of Lemnos, whence it is chiefly brought. Many form it into round cakes, and impress a seal upon it; whence it is also called terra figillata. A sort is said to be imported from Senegal, which is not properly an earth, though so called, but composed of the dried pulp of the fruit of the BAOBAB.
