a town of Ireland, in the county of Antrim and province of Ulster, 73 miles from Dublin. It was burnt down about 50 years ago; but is now rebuilt in a neat and handsome manner, and has a large linen manufactory. It is seated on the river Lagan, in W. Long. 6° 20'. N. Lat. 54° 31'. It gives title of earl to the family of Vaughan; and it returns two members to parliament, one half of the patronage of this borough being in the earl of Hertford.
