(John de), a Dutch author, was born about the beginning of the last century. We are indebted to him for a valuable and curious account, written in Dutch, of his embassy from the Dutch East India Company to the emperor of China. Jean le Carpentier published an excellent translation of it into French, in folio, Leyden, 1665. This edition is rare, and the book is in great request.
