a town in Germany, in the Hanover quarter. Of the four larger towns of this principality, it is the third in order. It is situated on the Ruhme, which runs into the Leine. It contains 500 houses, and, beside a secularized Lutheran abbey, has one parish-church, and some charitable foundations, and also enjoys some manufactures.
